Awesome day to Dive in the San Juans!! A
Three tanker that went off!! Williamson Rocks was the first
dip of the day. Blue Skies and beautiful vis made that dive
many peoples favorite. Captain Dave and crew were awesome
for some Surface Interval cruising, checking out a Grey
Whale for an hour breaching and blowing while we ate a great
lunch. Sares Head was my favorite dive, checking out numerous
Puget Sound King Crabs and Basket Stars. My favorite sighting
of the day was a shiny blue Dog Fish Shark swimming in a
cool pattern.
Another GREAT day in the San Juans. We had low-lying fog
at our desired dives, so we improvised and it worked out
really well. Our first was Cone Island and my favorite of
the day because my Partner Dale and I went deep and stuck
to our plan with perfection. Our second dive was Viti Rocks,
it was my Dive-Master Jason's favorite dive of the day because
it was a dive Deep Sea had never done, so we were breaking
ground. Last Dive of the Day was Strawberry Wall, named
because of all the Strawberry Anemones covering the wall.
The current was really active on that dive but we had a
great time none the less.
What a Day this was, I have to say every diver
on the boat that day has a new favorite site to dive in
the San Juans. Davidson Rocks!! Wow is all I can say, the
vis was great and the current was minimal, the rock is blanketed
with life and there was sightings of a Wolf Eel and a nice
size GPO. Dan from the Shop did his share of Video work
and the highlight was a magnificent Puget Sound King Crab.
I had never seen one so big and colorful. Our steady Freddy
Grey Whale was there for our second SI, he came closer to
the boat than ever before, very cool!! This was our last
three tanker of the year with Deep Sea and it could not
have been better.
Super Day of Diving aboard the Deep Sea, Captain
Dave and Tom had been doing some exploration finding some
awesome spots! We did Cypress Head, what a great dive, the
Kelp Greenlings were fantastic, as well as many Large GPO
and Wolfie sightings. Dave had predicted the slack perfect
again and with a little better Vis the day would have been
a 10, oh well we did the backside of Strawberry as the second
dive where the largest of Wolfies were spotted and 4-5 GPOs.
WOW!! Nothing short of an awesome day of diving. With 17
divers, the boat still felt like it had plenty of room to
spare, what a nice Dive Vessel.

A colleague and I took 2 groups of 25 6th
grade public school students on 4hour scenic tours with
Deep Sea Charters. Our goal was for the boat and crew to
help us meet our science requirements and create some student
interest in science, while providing an exciting and rare
educational opportunity for our students, several who had
never been on a boat. Captain Dave and his crew far exceeded
our wildest expectations! The highlights included all students
having several first time experiences such as seeing a scuba
diver gear up and dive, seeing and observing live basket,
brittle and sun stars, mating dungeons crabs, sea cucumbers
and a host of other critters, and having an expert on-board
to get immediate answers to their questions. Students saw
sea lions, harbor seals, pelagic cormorants and many other
species. One of the trip highlights was when I pointed out
a large bald eagle to 25 students and almost as if on queue,
watching it dive into the water, catch a fish and swim to
shore! Captain Dave anticipated what was going to happen
and focused everyone on the diving eagle. His enthusiasm
is recorded on my camcorder and etched in the minds of my
students! I spoke with Dave several times on the phone and
by email while communicating our needs before the trips.
Captain Dave and his crew were exceptional; providing high
quality education in an exciting and safe learning environment
and answering countless questions that enthusiastic 12 year-olds
have. After the trip, Dave asked what he could have done
to make it better. I honestly don't know on a professional
level we were addressing grade level expectations, and we
were doing it surrounded by a world of beauty filled with
awe and wonder. On the personal level, student conquered
their fears of the unknown; fears of boats, and fears of
seasickness, and in the process students took pictures and
created life-long memories. It just doesn't get any better
than that!
I plan to return with more students!

Hi David,
Wanted to take a minute to extend my thanks
for a very nice day yesterday. I realized that after the
gear had been taken off the boat, i took off without saying
farewell.
Had a great trip, the boat is real nice, and
I particularly appreciated the efforts of your mate, whose
name I regret that I've forgotten. I appreciate the attention
to detail and the relaxed approach - obviously you had a
boat full of very experienced divers, so your apprehension
level may have been somewhat less than under other circumstances,
but still it was a laid back trip and I had a great day.
Please put my name on your "upcoming
events" notification email list. I'm very interested
in any charters you may be running either to wrecks in the
area or for spear fishing charters. I look forward to being
able to get back up there and dive with your operation again
in the future.
Thanks again for a nice day,
Bill Brunsdon (Doc)

Dave,
Thank you so much for an amazing summer of
diving! Every group that I have brought on your boat raves
about their day - not just about the spectacular diving,
but the incredible service, as well as the boat itself (everyone
loves the "whale watching" top deck). I have brought
classes up to the San Juan's for the last ten years and
know that the currents can be tricky. Every dive off your
boat had been timed just right and I feel safe bringing
new divers along.
In addition, I really appreciate your involvement
in the dive community. I know that you are active with the
Ships to Reefs program, that you take local school kids
out and introduce them to marine life, and are now beginning
to promote REEF surveys. I think it is so important to do
community outreach work, to show people all the amazing
critters in the Sound, so that we can inspire conversation
and ensure many more decades of great diving!
Thanks again,
Mischi Carter
